Stunt Performer Spotlight: Alexandra Alsip

Featured Interview With Stunt Performer: Alexandra Alsip

Tell about yourself and your background! *

I began training to perform stunts about three years ago. Prior to that, I was a competitive gymnast and cheerleader. Loving to perform has always been a part of me, and I find joy every time I do. Challenging myself to new adventures, techniques, stunts, and more is something I strive for each day. In the past three years, I've learned so much, from muay thai, boxing, and jiu jitsu techniques to wire work and aerial silks skills to high falls and wrecking and more. I've loved every second of it, and I plan to love many more.

What inspired you to become a stunt performer?

I remember watching live shows as a child like the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and Cirque De Solei's performances and dreaming of being a part of the show. As I grew up and watched movies and tv shows that contained fight scenes and wrecks that were exciting and kept me excited and pumped up even after the scene ends, I realized that there was so much more to performing and that I wanted to be a part of the magic.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?

I think my greatest skill is the love of the work and the desire to continue to do what I love no matter the difficulty the path is that.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

For me, the best part of being a stunt performer is the ability to wow and inspire others who watch my stunts and see how much I love what I do.

Tell your all-time favorite stunt story!

My all-time favorite stunt story is the time I received the call to invite me to rehearse for my very first stunt performing gig. I will never forget the joy and excitement that flowed through me as I got asked if I would like to join the rehearsal team and finally get my first job as a stunt performer. I was with my mom at the time, and I distinctly remember having a huge smile on my face as I walked back over to tell her the news and that smile staying on my face for the entire rest of the day.

What advice would you give other stunt performers?

Don't be discouraged throughout the process. New things are hard. There will be a lot of times you don't get the job, but don't let that stop you from doing what you love. There is always room for improvement, so train hard and keep trying.

Anything else you'd like to tell the community about?

I absolutely love dogs and thoroughly enjoy all dog pictures and videos so anytime you'd like to share them please do. My pup's name is JJ, and he is spoiled rotten and the best snuggler in the world.
