Tell about yourself and your background! *
I have been in the film industry for nearly 20 years and have been in feature films such as 13 Eerie, Super Grid, and Stake lander 2. Over the past couple of years, I have gained strong momentum in my stunt career. In 2018, stunt coordinator Maja Aro brought me out to Vancouver to be part of Amazon Prime’s flagship series, The Man in the High Castle, as a stuntman. In 2019, I was selected to play MMA fighter, Stefan Anderson in the movie Cage fighter. Most recently, prior to the covid-19 shutdown, I traveled to San Diego for a movie called Kung Fu Ghost where I took on dual roles as both the fight designer and stunt performer.
What inspired you to become a stunt performer?
It is actually something that I sort fell into. I've been in the industry for close to 20 years primarily as an actor. During my acting career, there have been roles that have required stunt work and my martial arts background allowed me to flourish in those situations. Over time, the stunt side of things gained more momentum as I built a reputation for my stunts and so that became my focus.
What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?
Screen fighting for sure. I'm a 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido and love performing and choreographing fight scenes. I was brought onto a movie called Cage fighter, starring Chuck Liddell, to be one of the MMA fighters.
What is the best part about being a stunt performer?
It's all around amazing to be a stunt performer. You get to safely perform sequences that most people wouldn't be able to do. It's like being able to play around like a big kid but with the important purpose of keeping actors and yourself safe.
Tell your all-time favorite stunt story!
I was on a movie called 13 Eerie as one of the zombies. There was a scene where a bus was supposed to drive past me. However, during one of the previous scenes, the bus got banged up and could no longer run. They ended up getting me to vault up onto the bus and jump through the window and attack the people inside. The stunt ended up being WAY funner than what was originally planned
What advice would you give other stunt performers?
Keep your skills up. You never know what you may need to do on set so it's good to have a broad base of skills to draw from. Keep things polished so that you know you can perform whenever called upon. Never lie and say you can do something that you can't; you will put yourself and others in danger! Be easy to work with. No one likes working with a diva.
