Stunt Performer Spotlight: Tej limlas Ly

Featured Interview With Stunt Performer: Tej limlas Ly

Tell about yourself and your background! *

I am a dude that started his adventure by being born and raised in France and then got picked up to work for a show in the USA.I am a former Cirque du Soleil performer from the show KA at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. I did some Martial arts when I was younger and Parkour used to be my specialty but throughout the years as a performer, I became more all around.

What inspired you to become a stunt performer?

I use to watch the behind the scene after each movies I really enjoy, like Jackie Chan movies. Seeing the ambiance, creativity and collaboration of the whole team to make that kind of magic happen always made me say " that's what I want to do".Then I got picked up by Cirque du Soleil and got to do the creation of the show KA, which had the same feeling of those behind the scene but once the show started performing in Las Vegas, it became a routine each day/week/month.I loved being a stage performer and this was a great job but after so many years I got reminded of my original though by taking a specific class "Fighting for film", also meeting with a French stunt performer that worked in the same show for a few years. This sparked back my fire for wanting to be working in the movie industry and learn more about stunts.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a stunt behind it?

My experience as a performer help me a lot but I would say that it is my ability to work/adapt with/to people. I do believe that I am easy to work with and when given a task/job, I will do my utmost best "plus Ultra" to make it happen while working well with the team."Being honest", if there is something I can or cannot do, I will just say it upfront.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

The best part of being a stunt performer... To be honest, I am still a newbie at it and learning along the way but this, gives me the opportunity to meet/learn from amazing people in the industry, the community. Each job/gig gives me the chance to learn more about myself, to better myself, work with/learn from/meeting people. It is like a new adventure each time, another chance to meet people/learn and it is really exciting.

Tell your all-time favorite stunt story!

I do not have one yet since I just recently started this new adventure that I wanna make my career but I love hearing about people's experience on set.I hope to update that very soon :)

What advice would you give other stunt performers?

Keep training what you already know,  learn the skills you wish to acquire, Don't give up if it is really what you wanna do. "When there is a will there is a way"It might not happen today or tomorrow yet but as long as you are alive and healthy, there is "possibilities"

Anything else you'd like to tell the community about?

I can't wait to meet/work with more of the people in this industry. I will keep working on being a stunt performer, keep learning/training and be a better version of myself than I was yesterday and just like Thor had to be worthy of holding Mjolnir, I want to be worthy of being called a "stunt performer". :)
